Appright Prefers Open Source: Why Did I Choose to Sponsor OBS?

Everything we do at Aprite is open-source ️, and we want to enable and foster the open-source community that helped us grow to over 27,000 stars on GitHub. However, maintaining and growing open-source projects requires a great deal of effort. We use open-source tools daily to create Aprites, and we want to help our community. To give back, each Aprite engineer has to choose an open-source project for one year for Aprite to sponsor. The project I have chosen to contribute to is OBS.

Creating a better livestreaming experience

As a developer-first company, we must maintain an active engagement with our developer community and create quality experiences for them on all fronts. One such front, which was already a vast space, but has become more important in this remote world, is livestreaming and video content. As a developer advocate, I am often responsible for ensuring the success of our livestreaming efforts as a speaker and host. However, managing streaming gear such as webcam, mic and green screen while ensuring consistent video quality can become a daunting task. The application that comes to my rescue every day is OBS Studio.

OBS Studio not only makes it easy to manage my gear for livestreaming, but it also allows me to set up amazing looking productions for any number of recordings. If you are a budding live streamer, no matter which platform you prefer, this is definitely a powerful tool to have in your repertoire.

Just an important tip, don’t wear green when streaming with a green screen! I

supporting open-source software

As an open-source company, we understand the challenges that open-source projects face. If you fall in love with an open-source project (like the one we have), there are many ways to contribute and support their journey. Most OSS projects happily accept contributions in their preferred way, whether in the form of commits, bug reports, advocacy, or even monetary support. If you love OBS and want to support them, feel free to contribute what works best for you. And if you’re interested in contributing to Aprite, go ahead and check out our contribution guide.
